The truth of the Kingdom of Camelot has been debated for many hundreds of years. 16th century author, John Leland, claims that the name Camelot descends from the local traditions of Somerset.

Early Arthurian authors say that Arthur's capital was in Caerleon, in Wales. Other versions of Camelot draw on early traditions of Arthur's glorious court. The tale Culhwch and Olwen were written in the 11th century and place Camelot in an unknown locale in Cornwall, known as Celliwig. Camelot has become a legend associated with chivalry and beauty, as well as fantasy.
